HD Hyundai Energy Solutions Secures First Solar Module Order in Africa

Contract with Portuguese MCA
Supply of 22MW Solar Modules to Angola

HD Hyundai Energy Solutions, a solar power subsidiary of HD Hyundai, has secured its first order in the African market.

On the 22nd, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions announced that it recently signed a contract to supply 22MW worth of solar modules with Portugal's MCA.

Under this contract, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions will supply 500W high-output module products by August this year, and MCA plans to use these products for the construction projects of power plants in the Bayrundo and Kuito regions commissioned by the Angolan government.

The 22MW capacity is enough to meet the electricity demand of 140,000 residents in the Angola region.

These modules can absorb sunlight not only from the front but also from the rear, resulting in more than 30% higher power generation compared to conventional modules. Additionally, the Half-Cut technology, which splits a single cell into two and connects them, reduces current loss and increases power generation efficiency.

Through this project, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions is supplying products to Africa for the first time. Going forward, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions plans to participate in the bidding for a large-scale 300MW solar project to be carried out in Angola starting in the first half of 2024.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Africa holds 60% of the world's solar resources, but its solar power generation capacity remains at about 1% of the global level, indicating a market with very high growth potential.

An official from HD Hyundai Energy Solutions stated, "We will expand our influence in the market by supplying high-output, high-quality products not only to public but also private solar power plants in Africa in the future," adding, "We will actively pioneer emerging markets such as Angola and Uzbekistan, as well as our existing main markets in the Americas and Europe."
