Design plan for the 'Lifestyle Complex' being developed by Seongnam City in the Wondosim Sanseong-daero area
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is promoting an urban regeneration project to revitalize the commercial district along Sanseong-daero, which runs through the original downtown areas of Sujeong and Jungwon, by creating a cultural and commercial complex space in the area.
On the 22nd, Seongnam City announced that it will invest 10 billion KRW of city funds to improve the commercial environment along Sanseong-daero and create spaces for citizens to rest and take walks through the 'Seongnam-style Urban Regeneration Project.'
The project area along Sanseong-daero covers 170,219 square meters, including Sinheung-dong in Sujeong-gu and Seongnam and Jungang-dong in Jungwon-gu. Four commercial districts in this area?Jungang Underground Shopping Center, Seongho Market, Sinheung Rodeo Street, and Sinheung General Shopping Center?house over 1,300 stores.
As a priority project, Seongnam City is considering creating a green pedestrian plaza, a plaza-style promenade 15 to 26 meters wide, along a 1.3 km section from Sujin Station on Subway Line 8 to Woori Bank Intersection.
Additionally, to improve convenience for commercial district users, the city plans to enhance accessibility by linking with Subway Line 8 and the Semi-Bus Rapid Transit system (S-BRT), and will also implement facility improvements such as installing escalators and elevators.
Alongside this, to activate cultural content, the city will support commercial district branding planning and marketing, and operate programs to strengthen merchant capabilities.
Seongnam City will hold a public hearing to inform residents about these project plans, gather their opinions, and after consultations with the city council, is expected to begin design services as early as the second half of this year.
A Seongnam City official stated, "We will establish a distinctive implementation plan to develop the Sanseong-daero area into a 'Lifestyle Complex.'"
