KT announced on the 22nd that it will launch the portable Wi-Fi device supporting 5G, ‘5G EGG 2’.
The 5G EGG 2 is a device that allows users to insert a USIM and convert 5G data into WiFi, enabling wireless internet access on various devices. Following the steady sales of the ‘5G EGG’ that KT first introduced domestically in 2020, the new model has been released with improved user convenience and design to meet market demand.
KT’s 5G EGG 2 applies the WiFi standard ‘WiFi 6’ and sets the 5 GHz band, which is advantageous for high speed, as the default. Unlike the previous LTE EGG which had a maximum output speed limit of 10 Mbps, the 5G EGG 2 provides ultra-high-speed data without speed restrictions on a single device depending on the subscribed plan.
KT’s 5G EGG 2 can connect up to 17 devices simultaneously (16 WiFi devices + 1 USB tethering device). It is useful for using various devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets at the same time or when a seamless wireless environment is needed while on the move, such as at small outdoor events.
The most notable feature is the newly added display on the front, which allows users to easily and conveniently check usage information such as 5G/LTE signal strength, network connection status, battery capacity, and charging status compared to before.
The retail price of the 5G EGG 2 is 407,000 KRW (including VAT). The available subscription plans are ‘5G Smart Device 28GB (30,000 KRW per month, including VAT)’ and ‘5G Smart Device 14GB (19,800 KRW per month, including VAT)’. The official subsidies are 180,000 KRW and 120,000 KRW respectively. The 5G EGG 2 can be applied for at KT stores nationwide and the official online mall, KT Shop.
Kim Byung-kyun, Head of KT’s Device Business Division, said, “We have launched the 5G EGG 2 to provide a more satisfying customer experience.” He added, “We will continue to release products that can be helpful to our customers.”
