Known as the only herb colony in downtown Seoul... A spectacular view where over 200 species of herbs and trees harmonize
To allow anyone to heal in the city, a 240m barrier-free deck will be installed on the entrance path of Herb Astronomical Park
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Suhee) announced on the 22nd that it plans to create a barrier-free deck path so that everyone can freely use Herb Astronomical Park, which is loved by residents as the only herb colony in Seoul.
Located at the foot of Iljasan Mountain in Dunchon-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, Herb Astronomical Park (San 86, Dunchon-dong) is a park where about 200 species of herbs and trees blend together. Currently, colorful flowers such as lavender, geranium, sage varieties, and poppies are in full bloom, creating a spectacular view.
Visitors can enjoy not only the fragrant herbs and seasonal distinctive landscapes but also various attractions and activities such as unique herb experience programs, photo zones, observation decks, and sculpture gardens, making it a place that attracts visitors all year round.
However, the entrance path has been a steep slope and wooden stairs, making it difficult for people with mobility challenges, such as wheelchair users, to visit.
Accordingly, Gangdong-gu plans the “Barrier-Free Deck Road Construction Project” to enable socially vulnerable groups to also enjoy the park’s beautiful scenery, aiming for completion in November this year.
First, the old wooden stairs leading to the entrance will be removed, and a barrier-free deck walking path about 240m long will be created so that all residents can enjoy the beautiful scenery in the city.
Lee Hyunsam, Director of the Green City Division, said, “Once the barrier-free deck road is completed, more residents will be able to use Herb Astronomical Park easily and safely,” adding, “We will continue to improve park services in the district so that residents can take a moment of rest amid their tiring daily lives.”
