Busan Symbol of Democracy, What Are Your Thoughts? ... 3rd Discussion on YS Memorial Hall Construction Held

Recruiting Participants Until May 26

Busan City will hold the 3rd discussion forum for the construction of the "(tentative name) YS Memorial Hall" at 2 p.m. on the 30th in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the Busan City Council.

Busan Symbol of Democracy, What Are Your Thoughts? ... 3rd Discussion on YS Memorial Hall Construction Held Busan City Hall.

This forum was organized to form a consensus among citizens on the direction of construction and to gather diverse opinions, following concerns raised after the 1st and 2nd forums regarding the form of the presidential memorial hall and the lack of public opinion collection procedures.

Since a citizen consensus on the necessity of a democratization memorial facility has already been confirmed through perception surveys and forums, this event is an opportunity to directly hear citizens' voices on matters to be reflected in the construction plan.

The city has been promoting this project to engrave the historical value of Busan, which was at the center of Korea's democratization history, and to create an opportunity to inherit and develop that spirit.

During the construction research service process, expert consultations from various fields and citizen surveys were conducted regarding the construction direction and democratic values, and after the completion of the service, a citizen perception survey on the necessity and direction of the construction was also carried out.

Currently, the city is promoting the construction of a memorial hall representing former President Kim Young-sam, who is inseparable from the history of Busan's democratization movement.

In the case of the "(tentative name) YS Memorial Hall," it will differ from existing presidential memorial facilities and will be designed to allow people to experience democratic values through the history of democratization and the footsteps of national leaders, not limited to the single event of the Bu-Ma Democratic Uprising.

The forum will begin with a keynote presentation on the purpose and necessity of constructing the "(tentative name) YS Memorial Hall," followed by designated discussions, and then proceed to a Q&A and open discussion session to hear citizens' opinions.

Any citizen wishing to participate in the forum can apply by phone or email to the Busan City Livelihood and Labor Policy Division from May 22 to May 26. For more details, please refer to the integrated announcements on the Busan City Hall website.

Lee Su-il, Director of the Administrative Autonomy Bureau, explained the purpose by saying, "This forum is an opportunity to share the progress and purpose of the memorial hall project promoted by the city so far and to hear citizens' opinions on the construction plan," adding, "Since democratic values are the core content of the memorial hall, it will be built not as an existing presidential memorial facility but as a place like the U.S. Presidential School, where living history education is possible."
