Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will add six more smart libraries by 2026.

On the 21st, Yongin City announced that it plans to comprehensively review vulnerable areas without libraries, subway stations with high foot traffic, parks, and other locations to decide where to install the additional smart libraries.

The smart library is an unmanned book lending and return machine that allows any Gyeonggi Province resident holding a Yongin City library membership card to borrow up to three books per person, 24 hours a day, anytime.

Yongin City's smart libraries have been installed at Giheung Station and Jukjeon Station on the Bundang Line, Undongjang and Songdamdae Stations on the Yongin Light Rail, Seongbok Station on the Shinbundang Line, Bojeong-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Giheung-gu, Sinbong-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Suji-gu, and Yongin City Hall.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "We have decided to expand six more smart libraries throughout the city so that citizens can read books, explore knowledge, and nurture their dreams without being restricted by time and place," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the goal of exceeding the pledge by 160% is carried out smoothly."

Earlier, 312 citizens participated in a book borrowing event held from the 17th to the 28th of last month to promote the use of smart libraries in Yongin City. During the two-week event, the number of loans increased by 479 compared to before, achieving significant results.
