The Democratic Party of Korea expressed growing public concern that the Korean government inspection team visiting Japan to observe the Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water might end up merely "watching the contaminated water and playing the role of a stooge for Japan."
On the 20th, spokesperson Park Seong-jun stated in a written briefing, "The inspection team cannot bring testing equipment, nor can they even dream of collecting samples of the contaminated water. Due to Japan's refusal, not a single Korean civilian expert was allowed to participate in the inspection," he said.
He added, "The inspection schedule announced by the government consists solely of technical meetings and Q&A sessions with Japanese related agencies, and confirming the management status of contaminated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Although the government said it plans to focus on inspecting the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS), it will only be a situation where they tour the facilities without verifying how the discharged contaminated water will affect the ecosystem," he criticized.
He continued, "At the G7 meeting happening around the same time, Fukushima agricultural products are said to be provided. This is being used as a propaganda platform to show that Fukushima is safe," and urged, "The government must prioritize the safety of our people and act accordingly."
