According to Japanese media including Asahi Shimbun on the 20th, the G7 leaders reached this agreement during a working dinner held the previous evening at a traditional Japanese inn in Miyajima, Hiroshima, Japan, home to the UNESCO World Heritage site Itsukushima Shrine.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated, "Attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force anywhere in the world are absolutely unacceptable," adding, "It is essential to demonstrate the G7's strong commitment to upholding a free and open international order based on the rule of law."

The G7 leaders confirmed the importance of maintaining a free and open international order based on the rule of law, keeping in mind China's maritime advances in the East and South China Seas. They also once again shared the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and agreed to urge the peaceful resolution of related issues.

The leaders collectively called on China to act as a responsible member of the international community and agreed on the importance of building constructive and stable relations through dialogue on issues such as climate change measures.
