Hampyeong-gun Forms Sister City Relationship with Liberec, Czech Republic

2022 Gukhyang Festival 'Severachek Choir' Visit Opportunity... Agricultural and Economic Exchange Blossoms

Hampyeong County has signed a friendship exchange agreement with Liberec City, a prestigious city in Eastern Europe, Czech Republic, and promised to engage in 'cultural and artistic policy exchanges.'

According to the county on the 19th, Lee Sang-ik, the mayor of Hampyeong County, and the visiting delegation visited Liberec City, Czech Republic, from the 12th for a 5-night, 7-day schedule and held a friendship exchange agreement ceremony with Mayor Jaroslav Zamecnik.

This friendship exchange agreement was triggered by the performance of the Czech 'Severacek Choir' at the opening ceremony of the '2022 Korea National Chrysanthemum Exhibition' held in Hampyeong County last year.

The Severacek Choir, a representative Czech youth choir with over 60 years of tradition and representing Liberec City, visited Hampyeong during the Chrysanthemum Exhibition festival period and delivered the best stage performance to the residents and tourists.

Accordingly, on October 28, 2022, the two cities exchanged letters of intent for cultural exchange, and this friendship exchange agreement ceremony was realized following the invitation of the Hampyeong County delegation by Liberec City this year.

Through this agreement, Hampyeong County and Liberec City promised to continuously cooperate in major cultural and artistic policy exchanges by establishing an international cooperation system through mutual understanding between the two cities.

After the agreement ceremony, Mayor Lee Sang-ik and Vice Mayor Ivan Langr inspected major industrial facilities in Liberec City, such as the crystal factory, and attended the 65th anniversary commemorative performance of the Severacek Choir.

Mayor Lee Sang-ik emphasized, “Through the friendship exchange agreement with Liberec City, Czech Republic, we will build a cooperative network with outstanding cultural organizations through cultural and artistic exchanges and integration. Furthermore, we will expand agricultural and economic cooperation to maximize the sharing and utilization of resources possessed by both local governments and discover and promote sustainable cooperative projects.”
