900 Calls in One Year... A Man in His 60s Made Prank Calls Even Next to the Police

A man in his 60s who disrupted police work by making over 900 prank calls to 112 in nearly a year was caught by the police.

According to Jeju Police Agency on the 19th, a prank call was received at the 112 Integrated Situation Room around 12:20 PM the previous day.

The caller, Mr. A (64), made false reports while rambling more than 50 times over 2 hours and 30 minutes, saying things like "What did I say earlier?", "Come quickly and arrest me," and "Track my location."

During this process, the police confirmed that Mr. A had made 900 prank calls to 112 from June 3 of last year until recently, and filed a report for minor offense control and began tracking him.

If caught making prank calls to 112 or 119, one can be punished with a fine of up to 100,000 won, detention, or a penalty according to the Minor Offenses Act.

Using the Location-Based Service (LBS) tracking system, the police identified that Mr. A made calls from Hallim-eup, Jeju City, and while patrolling and conducting inquiries around the area, they found Mr. A sleeping on the street next to a convenience store while intoxicated.

After waking up, Mr. A continued to make prank calls to 112, ignoring the police officers who were right beside him.

While checking wanted persons to impose a fine, the police confirmed that Mr. A was wanted for not paying a 1 million won fine for obstruction of business, arrested him, and handed him over to the prosecution.
