TIE to Promote Drone Delivery Service with Seongnam City
Aerial mobility company ThisIsEngineering (TIE) announced on the 19th that it will launch a drone delivery service in collaboration with Seongnam City from July to October this year. TIE was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's drone demonstration city project along with Seongnam City. The drone delivery service will be provided mainly in the demonstration area within Bundang-gu. It will deliver convenience store fresh food items weighing up to 5 kg, as well as picnic supplies, swimming pool items, and menu items from affiliated restaurants near Tancheon to Tancheon riverside parks including the swimming pool at Jeongja Station in Bundang, basketball courts, and other locations.
Orders can be easily placed using a mobile delivery application, and deliveries are made to the drone delivery points in the Tancheon riverside parks closest to the consumer by checking GPS location information. TIE plans to provide fast and accurate delivery services at about half the cost of existing rider delivery fees. In this pilot project, a more advanced drone delivery service will also be introduced. Previously, deliveries were mainly between fixed points, but this time, items ordered will be delivered quickly and accurately using only the departure and arrival information. TIE’s delivery drones, designed to fly safely under various weather conditions such as strong winds or heatwaves, depart from an automatic charging base, pick up items from convenience stores or restaurants within the service area, and deliver them to the destination within 5 minutes.
Hong Yoo-jung, CEO of TIE, said, "We expect drone delivery to significantly improve the existing logistics environment and quality of life by reducing costs through autonomous flight and automation, as well as alleviating congested urban traffic problems and enhancing delivery quality." She added, "We will continue to showcase exemplary safe and efficient drone delivery services and proactively present the future urban environment and its benefits centered on drone-based services."
