"Sanitation Workers Injured" Local Governments Reduce Size of 'Eumsseu' Volume-Based Waste Bags

Suwon City Adjusts Maximum Size of Food Waste Volume-Based Bags from '50ℓ to 20ℓ'

"Sanitation Workers Injured" Local Governments Reduce Size of 'Eumsseu' Volume-Based Waste Bags Suwon City Hall

The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is reducing the maximum size of food waste volume-based bags from 50ℓ to 20ℓ to prevent injuries to environmental workers.

On the 19th, Suwon City announced that it had promulgated and enacted the "Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on Suppression of Food Waste Generation, Collection, Transportation, and Promotion of Recycling in Suwon City" on the 18th, which includes this measure.

There were concerns that filling a 50ℓ food waste volume-based bag could exceed 35kg in weight, posing a safety risk to environmental workers.

However, Suwon City will continue to sell the existing 50ℓ food waste volume-based bags until the current stock is depleted, and bags already distributed in the market can still be used.

To minimize inconvenience to citizens, Suwon City plans to actively promote this change through volume-based bag sales points and the official SNS channels of Suwon City.

A Suwon City official stated, "Lowering the maximum size of food waste volume-based bags will help environmental workers work safely," and added, "We will actively promote the ordinance amendment to minimize inconvenience to citizens."
