The 22nd “Jangseong Hwangryonggang Hong(Gil-dongmu) Flower Road Festival,” the representative spring festival of Jangseong, Jeollanam-do, will be held from the 19th to the 21st along the Hwangryonggang riverside and at Hong Gil-dong Theme Park, the organizers announced on the 18th.
This year’s festival features the 10-ri flower road along Hwangryonggang, beautiful nightscapes, and a variety of attractions that will hasten the footsteps of spring visitors.
The festival offers flower and nightscape viewing and performances at Hwangryonggang, while children’s programs can be experienced at Hong Gil-dong Theme Park.
On the first day, the 19th, at 7 p.m., visitors at the old public stadium can enjoy the opening ceremony celebration stage featuring famous singers such as Nam Jin, Jang Min-ho, Hong Jin-young, and Jin Si-mon.
After the opening ceremony, a spectacular fireworks display will light up the sky. On Saturday the 20th, the “Spring Flower Healing Concert” will feature the female duo Davichi and the lyrical folk singer Park Kang-soo, who will provide a refreshing emotional recharge for spring days.
On the 21st, the “Dance with Flower Road Concert,” transcending genres with young trot singer Lee Su-ho, tango waltz, and popera performances, is expected to enliven the atmosphere.
Paid experiences such as electric trains for comfortable viewing of the Hwangryonggang flower road and water bicycles for strolling on the water will also be available. The hot air balloon experience, introduced for the first time at the Flower Road Festival, is also attracting attention.
Local restaurants showcasing the flavors of Jangseong, simple food booths, and food trucks will be operated. Various experiences and a marketplace selling Jangseong’s agricultural specialties will also welcome guests. The hydrangea tunnel and point garden, which were much loved at last year’s Hwangryonggang Autumn Flower Festival, will be created around the ecological park.
If you want to escape the crowded Hwangryonggang and spend a cozy time with your family, Hong Gil-dong Theme Park is perfect. It is full of engaging activities such as air bounces, eco-friendly playgrounds, parrot experiences, and Lego soap-making experiences that children will enjoy. There are also many interesting events like magic shows and ventriloquism.
Unique programs only available at the Flower Road Festival also draw attention. On the 19th at 3 p.m., the “Namdo Food Film Talk Show” will be held at the small theater of the Jangseong Culture and Arts Center.
Director Joo Young-ha of the Jangseogak at the Academy of Korean Studies, Director Kim Hyun-jin of the Namdo Traditional Food Culture Research Institute, and programmer Hwang Hye-rim of the Seoul International Food Film Festival will watch four food films together and then have a discussion with the audience.
From the 19th to the 20th, the 44th Namdo Gugak Festival will open at the Hong Gil-dong Gymnasium. It is a meaningful traditional music festival where 1,200 Namdo gugak musicians gather in one place.
During the day, colorful spring flowers such as poppies, stickyleaf stonecrop, and mist flowers take center stage, while at night, the mysterious nightscape stands out.
In particular, the 600-plus lights installed on the Munhwa Bridge and the ever-changing media lighting captivate the eyes. The nightscape attraction is completed with lighting facilities and flower sculptures under Yongjak Bridge and the flower tunnel in front of Yellow City Stadium, attracting many visitors.
The “Seasons of Chukryeong” in the flower tunnel is a work by world-renowned media artist Lee Lee-nam. It can be viewed from sunset until 11 p.m.
County Governor Kim Han-jong said, “We will do our best to operate the newly renovated Jangseong Hwangryonggang Hong(Gil-dongmu) Flower Road Festival so that it will be remembered as a beautiful and precious time like spring flowers with various attractions and things to see. We also plan to have a visitor reception period until the 29th after the festival, so we hope many people will come.”
