"I'll Make You Feel Exactly How I Feel" Threatening Letter from an Incarcerated Con Artist

Sent Threatening Letter to Victim A
"Personal Information Exposed to Criminals" Claim
"Does It Take a Major Incident to Fix This?" Lament

A netizen claimed to have received a 'threatening letter' from a used goods transaction scammer currently serving a prison sentence, sparking controversy. The netizen expressed concern about possible retaliation, saying they do not know how their personal information was exposed to the perpetrator.

A, who claims to be a victim of the scam, revealed the letter received from the perpetrator B on an online community on the 17th. A stated that they reported B to the police last January after being scammed in a used goods transaction.

According to the police investigation, B was found to have swindled approximately 23 million won from 26 victims, including A. Subsequently, B was prosecuted on fraud charges and sentenced to two years in prison.

The issue arose when B, who has been incarcerated for over a year, sent a letter to A. The letter is presumed to have been delivered to A’s home address.

In the letter, B wrote, "You remember me, right?" and asked, "I’m fine with the compensation order. But was it really necessary to go that far? The report, the compensation order, the seizure?did it have to be like this?" It was reported that following the police report, a compensation order was issued, and seizures were placed on B’s prison wages and earned income tax credit. B appears to have had 484,000 won seized while in prison.

Regarding this, B said, "I had no money and was feeling unwell, so I was saving up to go to the hospital." He added, "Of course, I admit I was wrong, but since the compensation order was already in place, I would have had to pay it back eventually."

He then added, "I will make sure you feel exactly how I feel right now," and "Please take care of yourself." A, who disclosed the letter, expressed disbelief, saying, "He is basically saying that since I troubled him, just wait and see."

A emphasized, "I cannot understand how a victim’s personal information can be given to a criminal," and warned, "Will this only be fixed after a serious retaliatory crime occurs? When reporting a scam to the police and applying for a compensation order like I did, your address is disclosed, so please enter an address that is not in a dangerous location." A also stated that they filed a complaint with the Ministry of Justice regarding B’s threatening letter and submitted a criminal complaint to the police.
