DL E&C Consortium Selected as Qualified Bidder for Detailed Design
Aiming to Start Construction Within the Year
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 17th that the DL E&C consortium has been selected as the qualified bidder for the detailed design of the Namhae-Yeosu Undersea Tunnel construction project.
Since the bid announcement in June last year, a total of three consortia including DL E&C, Lotte Construction, and POSCO E&C participated in the bidding. The DL E&C consortium proposed a design that includes an additional connecting road to the north side of Namhae-gun besides the main tunnel, receiving the highest technical score and was finally selected as the qualified bidder for the detailed design.
The Namhae-Yeosu Undersea Tunnel construction project is a project to establish a new four-lane national highway spanning a total of 8.085 km (with a 5.76 km undersea tunnel) connecting Yeosu-si, Sindok-dong in Jeollanam-do to Seomyeon, Namhae-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do, with a national budget investment of 697.4 billion KRW.
Once the undersea tunnel opens, the travel time between Yeosu and Namhae will be drastically reduced from 1 hour 30 minutes to 10 minutes, and the industrial and tourism resources of Yeosu-si and Namhae-gun will be organically combined, greatly contributing to regional economic development.
This project plans to immediately start detailed design aiming for construction commencement within this year, and after 8 years of construction, the undersea tunnel is expected to open in 2031.
Lee Yong-wook, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "This project is a symbolic project connecting Yeong and Honam regions and will play a crucial role as a catalyst for regional harmony and the creation of the Southwest Coast tourism belt," adding, "We will not only ensure thorough progress management so that the undersea tunnel can open according to the planned schedule but also carefully monitor safety while promoting the project."
