Lotte Chilsung Achieves Cumulative Sales of 10 Million Bottles of Australian Wine 'Yellow Tail'

On the 17th, Lotte Chilsung Beverage announced that the cumulative sales of the Australian wine brand ‘Yellow Tail,’ which was first introduced to the domestic market in May 2005, exceeded 10 million bottles by the end of last year. This equates to an average monthly sales volume of 47,000 bottles and a daily sales volume of 1,500 bottles.

Launched in 2001 with the concept of “wine that anyone can easily enjoy,” Yellow Tail is currently exported to more than 70 countries worldwide, including South Korea, accounting for 17% of Australia’s total wine exports. It possesses large-scale production facilities capable of producing 36,000 bottles per hour, the fastest in the world, and exports about 84% of its production volume. Especially during the pandemic, supported by the growth of the domestic wine market, sales have increased at an average annual rate of 12.1% over the past five years, expanding the presence of Australian wine in the Korean market.

John Casella, owner of Yellow Tail and representative of the Casella Family Brands, said, “The Korean market, which has shown steady growth for 18 years since the launch in 2005, holds an important position for both the Australian wine market and Yellow Tail. We plan to strengthen marketing activities with our partner Lotte Chilsung Beverage in preparation for the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Korean market launch.”

The Casella Winery, which produces Yellow Tail, was founded in 1969 by Filippo Casella, an Italian immigrant, and is currently operated by his son John Casella. The winery was inducted into the ‘Australian Export Hall of Fame’ in 2005, named the ‘Best Australian Wine Family’ in 2009 and 2010, and has been selected as the most influential wine brand for six consecutive years since 2018, making it one of the leading wineries representing Australian wine.
