Over 200 Participants from Business, Academia, and Government
Insights on Technology Development Status and Future Responses in the AI Era

Asia Economy hosted the 2023 Asia Future Enterprise Forum to explore new visions for the industry utilizing artificial intelligence (AI). Held under the theme "The Future of Our Companies Led by AI," the event introduced the current status of AI technologies applied in industrial fields and presented insights on how companies should respond to future technologies.


The 11th Asia Future Enterprise Forum, held on the 17th at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by over 200 participants, including key corporate figures, representatives from research institutions and universities, government officials, AI startup leaders, and general attendees. As the first event held after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, it brought together many people from various sectors in one place.

Woo Byung-hyun, CEO of Asia Economy and the event host, stated, "The emergence of 'ChatGPT' is a landmark event signaling the arrival of an era where AI is accessible and usable by everyone, much like how email and search engines opened the internet to the public in the past." He added, "Just as companies' fates were determined by their internet usage capabilities in the past, adopting AI in the current era is equally crucial. I hope this forum provides an opportunity to climb the golden ladder of AI."

Science and technology experts attending as guests also emphasized the importance of AI technology and the challenges facing Korean companies. Park Sung-joong, a member of the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee and a representative of the People Power Party, said, "While the world is engaged in a silent war in the AI field, there are concerns about the pace of AI technology development in Korea." He continued, "On the other hand, the limitations of AI technology are also being discussed, so it is important to clearly distinguish between technological development and its boundaries."


Ko Jin, Chairman of the Digital Platform Government Committee, said, "With the introduction of ChatGPT, AI has become closely integrated into our daily lives and will have a significant impact on our companies." He added, "The committee is actively considering how the government can effectively utilize AI." He further expressed confidence, saying, "I believe that through various projects, the competitiveness of our AI companies can be strengthened and developed."


Park Yoon-kyu, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "We will support cooperation between large corporations possessing ultra-large AI and promising small startups, and lead the development of application services in both private specialized and public sectors." He emphasized, "We will enhance the capabilities of employees in companies to support corporate innovation," and added, "The government will create measures to help various stakeholders respond to issues and ensure that our society can effectively embrace technology."

The event was conducted in four sessions: ▲The Future of AI ▲The GPT Era: Ecosystem Structure and Characteristics ▲Domestic Response Strategies for Generative AI ▲Startup Golden Ladder (Survival Skills). The first session began with a lecture by Bae Kyung-hoon, Director of LG AI Research Institute, who explained how companies should respond in the era of ultra-large AI. Following him, Choi Chang-gyu, Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics SAIT AI Research Center, and Lee Jae-ho, Team Leader of Robotics Vision AI Team at Hyundai Motor Group, presented AI application cases and future corporate responses.


From the second session onward, discussions were held in a panel format led by AI experts. The chairs for each session were Professor Lee Sang-gu of Seoul National University’s Department of Computer Science, Ha Jung-woo, Head of Naver AI Research Institute, and Kwon Oh-hyung, CEO of FuturePlay.


Throughout the event, attendees actively engaged in Q&A sessions, showing high interest. With the recent emergence of ChatGPT raising awareness of AI, the lectures covering basic concepts to future prospects received positive responses. It was also notable that many young attendees preparing for employment participated, reflecting the emphasis companies place on AI utilization. Choi Ga-eun (28, graduate student), who attended the event, said, "Although it is not my major field, I came because I was curious about how the AI industry operates." She added, "With the importance of AI emphasized by ChatGPT, I thought it was a field I should definitely be familiar with."
