Joseongmyeong, Gangnam District Mayor, Visits Site for Planned Mijudosan An Changho Memorial Hall Construction

On the 15th (local time), Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, visited the area near Citrus Heritage State Park, which Riverside City is donating as the site for the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Hall in the Americas.

Since establishing a sister city relationship in 1999, Gangnam-gu and Riverside City have continued exchanges in various fields such as education and culture.

In particular, Riverside City is the city where independence activist Dosan Ahn Chang-ho first arrived in the United States and laid the foundation for the independence movement. The city erected a statue of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho in the city hall plaza, and on August 13, 2018, the California State Assembly unanimously designated November 9, Dosan Ahn Chang-ho’s birthday, as "Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Day" to honor his noble spirit.

The delegation from Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) visited the area near Citrus Heritage State Park, which Riverside City donated as the site for the Korean American Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial, together with officials from Riverside City and the Korean American Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Association.

On the 15th, Riverside City signed an agreement with the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Association in the Americas (Chairman Kwak Do-won) to donate 12,000 pyeong (approximately 39,669 square meters) near Citrus Heritage State Park, a key area of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho’s activities, as the site for the memorial hall.

Gangnam-gu continues to support exhibitions and academic events held by the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Association at the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Hall and Dosan Park located in Sinsa-dong.
