Busan City will hold the "Preview of Busan International Art Center, Classic Park Concert" at the Hayaria Lawn Square in Busan Citizens Park from 6:30 PM on June 3 and June 4.
This performance is an outdoor classical concert planned to promote the Busan International Art Center, scheduled to open in 2025, and the Busan Opera House, scheduled to open in 2026, and to allow citizens to experience classical music in a more popular and friendly way before the official opening.
▲ The June 3 concert will be conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, currently considered one of the world's top five conductors, featuring the KBS Symphony Orchestra and vocalists active on the global opera stage: soprano So-Young Park, tenor Seung-Ju Park, baritone Ki-Hoon Kim, bass baritone Byung-Min Gil, the Busan City Choir, and the 2023 Busan Opera House season members. They will perform grand and beautiful opera arias and choruses by Puccini and Verdi, as well as Rossini opera overtures and Mascagni opera interludes.
▲ On June 4, the Busan City Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Soo-Yeol Choi, will perform a selection of world-renowned masterpieces beloved worldwide.
The program includes Dmitri Shostakovich's "Festive Overture," Edward Elgar's "Salut d'Amour," Anton?n Dvo??k's "Slavonic Dance No. 8, Op. 46," Johann Strauss II's "Thunder and Lightning Polka," Beethoven's "Triple Concerto, 1st Movement," Bizet's "Carmen Overture & Habanera," Bach's "Air on the G String," and Jean Sibelius's "Finlandia," all carefully selected by Soo-Yeol Choi to suit the park concert concept.
The Beethoven Triple Concerto will be performed in collaboration with cellist Young-Hoon Song, violinist Ji-Hye Lee, and pianist Tae-Hyung Kim.
The June 4 concert will be hosted by actor Seok-Hoon Kim to make the event more approachable for citizens.
The concert is free of charge for all seats, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. In line with the park concert concept, seating will be arranged as picnic seats, so citizens are encouraged to bring mats and enjoy Busan Citizens Park.
