Eliminating Domestic Violence and Sole Parenting Burdens to Strengthen Safety and Inclusion
Gyeongsangnam-do announced that it will implement family-friendly policies free from domestic violence and sole childcare in celebration of Family Month in May.
On the 16th, Gyeongnam held a briefing and announced the ‘Having and Not Having’ promises to enhance the happiness of Gyeongnam families.
According to the family-friendly policy, the five things that should be present in Gyeongnam families are ▲family safety ▲family equality ▲work-family balance ▲family inclusion ▲care community.
To this end, from July, the province will implement its own pilot project to establish and operate an outpatient obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Sacheon City as a delivery obstetrics and gynecology clinic.
Delivery medical expenses of up to 500,000 KRW per mother delivering at the clinic will also be supported.
For pregnant women registered at public health centers with a standard median income of 180% or less in seven regions without delivery obstetrics and gynecology clinics, excluding Hadong, Geochang, and Sancheong, transportation expenses of 100,000 KRW will be provided.

The first public postpartum care center in the province, located in Miryang, will continue to receive 600 million KRW in operating expenses, and mothers from low-income groups, persons with disabilities, and those giving birth to their third child or more who use the center will receive a 35-70% discount on usage fees.
To reduce the self-pay amount for the child care service provided to dual-income families with children under 12 years old, an additional 1.8 billion KRW will be supported as a provincial project starting this July.
From the same month, a monthly childcare fee of 100,000 KRW will also be provided to children of registered foreign residents born between 2017 and 2019 who use local daycare centers.
The province identified five things that should not exist in Gyeongnam families: ▲domestic violence ▲relationship inequality ▲sole childcare ▲discrimination ▲isolation.
To address this, counseling centers, the 1366 Gyeongnam Center, Gyeongsangnam-do, and the police will collaborate to implement an integrated domestic violence management support project.
The project will lead the operation of a recurrence prevention program to promptly protect victims of domestic violence and block the sources of violence, helping families recover to a safe and healthy state.
The province will also add two more child protection agencies and two more shelters for abused children to the existing six each.
The home-visit family recovery program will be expanded from 38 households to 102 households, providing home counseling, psychological testing, customized programs, and follow-up management support.
On the 17th, the 30th Family Month commemorative event will be held at the Changwon Convention Center (CECO) to foster a family-friendly atmosphere, featuring a family photo contest exhibition, experience booths, orchestra performances, concerts, talk concerts, and other related events.
Baek Sam-jong, Director of the Women and Family Bureau, said, “We will strengthen the province’s social responsibility to ensure that all family members in Gyeongnam are happy and healthy.”
