Mokpo Coast Guard's Efforts to Secure the 'Golden Time' in Coastal Accidents

Posting of Banners and Installation of Warning Signs in Coastal Danger Zones

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) is conducting proactive activities to secure a rapid 'golden time' during search and rescue operations following coastal accidents.

According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 15th, the Namhang Police Substation posted its own safety banner warning of the risk of entrapment and drowning accidents in the tidal flats near the runway of the Navy's 3rd Fleet Air Base (located in Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do), a coastal accident risk area within its jurisdiction, last month.

The area where the banner was posted has seen two deaths due to tidal flat entrapment over the past two years, and due to its remote and narrow access road, it is difficult for rescue forces to approach and identify the accident location in emergencies.

In particular, due to the shallow water depth, it is difficult for the coastal patrol boat of the substation to access by sea, making it a coastal accident risk area with a very high possibility of delay in the 'golden time' for life-saving operations.

A maritime police official stated, "The banner installed this time clearly indicates the danger zone and includes detailed precautions such as checking the tide before entering the tidal flats and the road name address," adding, "It is expected to help raise awareness among nearby fishermen and enable efficient rescue activities through prompt reporting."

Meanwhile, Mokpo Maritime Police plans to continue proactive administration regarding coastal accident risk areas, including consulting with local governments (Yeongam County Office) on the installation of warning signs around the risk zones.
