Incheon City Partners with Travel Agencies to Support Overseas Trips for Grandparent-Grandchild Families

Incheon City is partnering with travel agency Norangpungseon Co., Ltd. to support overseas travel for grandparent-grandchild families.

The city is accepting applications for overseas travel support from grandparent-grandchild families (eligible under the Single-Parent Family Support Act) where grandparents are under 75 years old and children are 7 years or older, through their local district or county offices until the 31st of this month.

Seventeen families will be selected to travel to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, for a 3-night, 5-day trip from June 29 to July 3 to experience diverse cultures. The entire travel expense will be covered as part of Norangpungseon's social contribution project.

Previously, on the 12th, the city signed a 'Grandparent-Grandchild Family Overseas Travel Support Agreement' with Norangpungseon.

The city expects that this trip will strengthen family relationship functions in grandparent-grandchild families, where caregiving and protection within the family are vulnerable, and help promote the healthy growth of children.

Kim Ji-young, Director of the Women's and Family Bureau of Incheon City, said, "We thank Norangpungseon for helping with overseas travel for grandparent-grandchild families," and added, "We will continue to make efforts to improve welfare and cultural life for grandparent and single-parent families."

Meanwhile, Incheon City is implementing various projects to stabilize the lives and build self-reliance foundations for single-parent families, including grandparent-grandchild families.

This year, the city expanded the eligibility criteria for single-parent family support from households earning 52% or less of the median income to those earning 60% or less, increasing the number of beneficiary households by 210 to a total of 14,365 households, providing support for child-rearing expenses, education costs, heating bills, and medical treatment expenses.

In particular, education expenses for children were increased by 27.8% compared to last year, providing 168,000 KRW for elementary school students and 276,000 KRW for middle and high school students. For households needing assistance due to sudden accidents or illnesses, medical treatment expenses up to 1 million KRW per year are supported.
