Gangnam-gu Mayor Joseongmyeong Presents Appreciation Plaque to Riverside Market

Joseongmyeong, Mayor of Gangnam District, Presents Plaque of Appreciation to Riverside Mayor for Sister City Friendship Promotion and Father’s Korean War Service



On the 15th, Joseongmyeong, Mayor of Gangnam District, visited Riverside City, California, USA (Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson) and personally delivered a meaningful plaque of appreciation.


The two cities have maintained exchanges in various fields such as education and culture since 1999. In particular, Riverside is the city where independence activist Dosan Ahn Chang-ho first arrived in the United States and laid the foundation for the independence movement.


On May 1st, Mayor Lock Dawson visited Gangnam District, a sister city, and shared stories about her father who participated in the Korean War, introducing a special connection with Korea.

Upon hearing this, Mayor Joseongmyeong prepared a plaque of appreciation to express gratitude for Mayor Lock Dawson’s father, a hidden hero of the Korean War, as well as for the mayor’s contributions as a sister city leader, delivering a heartfelt message.


Mayor Joseongmyeong of Gangnam District said, “I would like to thank the mayor for her efforts to promote friendship between Gangnam and Riverside, and convey the respect and gratitude of the citizens of Gangnam to her father who risked his life to participate in the Korean War to protect the freedom of the Republic of Korea. Taking this visit as an opportunity, we will actively expand exchanges and cooperation for the mutual growth of the two cities.”
