Changnyeong Museum Passes Preliminary Feasibility Evaluation by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism

Solving the Issue of Limited Space in Open Storage and Exhibition Areas

Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has successfully passed the preliminary feasibility evaluation for the expansion project of the open storage facility at Changnyeong Museum, conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the first half of the year.

Since being selected as the entrusted institution for the storage and management of national cultural heritage in 2011, Changnyeong Museum has steadily increased its collection rate due to the acquisition of cultural heritage excavated in the region. Accordingly, the expansion project is being promoted to address issues such as systematic management of the increasing collection and the limited storage and exhibition space.

The preliminary feasibility evaluation for establishing public museums is an essential process for new establishment, expansion, or relocation of local government museums. To expand the open storage facility, the county held a local residents' briefing session and has been proceeding with preliminary procedures step by step since last year.

In January, the county submitted the preliminary evaluation application to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, passed the first document screening in March, the second on-site inspection in April, and the third final evaluation, enabling the acceleration of the open storage facility expansion.

A county official stated, “Through the expansion of the open storage facility, we will open the previously non-public storage area to the public, providing high-quality cultural enjoyment opportunities to residents and doing our best to overcome the limitations of cultural infrastructure.”
