Resolution Urging Construction of Incheon Line 4 from Yeonan Pier to Sorae Port Passes City Council Standing Committee

A resolution urging the prompt advancement of the construction of Incheon Urban Railway Line 4, which connects Yeonan Wharf and Sorae Port, has passed the relevant standing committee of the Incheon City Council.

On the 16th, the Construction and Transportation Committee of the City Council announced that it had approved the original draft of the '(Tentative Name) Resolution to Urge the Promotion of Incheon Urban Railway Line 4,' which was introduced by Representative Kim Jong-bae (People Power Party, Michuhol-gu 4).

The resolution mainly calls for including Line 4 in the Incheon Urban Railway Network Establishment Plan (2026~2035), establishing a task force for the swift promotion of the project, and expanding national subsidy support to improve transportation convenience for citizens in transportation-disadvantaged areas and throughout Incheon.

The route of Incheon Line 4, whose prompt construction is urged by Representative Kim, is Yeonan Passenger Terminal~Ongjin County Office~Inha University (transfer to Suin Line)~Incheon Court~Singimarket~Terminal (transfer to Incheon Urban Railway Line 1)~Mansu District~Seochang District~Sorae Port.

Representative Kim said, "To revitalize Incheon's marine tourism and improve transportation convenience for Ongjin County residents, we must connect Yeonan Wharf Station and Sorae Port Station and establish new stations at universities and courts frequently used by citizens. The route is centered around Terminal Station, which has the highest passenger volume among Incheon urban railway stations, and runs through Jung-gu, Michuhol-gu, and Namdong-gu."

According to the railway usage status relative to the metropolitan city population revealed by Representative Kim, Incheon’s ratio is only 77 times, which is relatively low compared to Busan’s 179 times and Daegu’s 111 times, indicating that the expansion of Incheon Urban Railway has been comparatively delayed.

Yeonan Wharf, used annually by 2.57 million Ongjin County residents and tourists, has no urban railway connection line, and the establishment of a subway station has been consistently requested due to the need to take buses for detours.

In March, at the 285th extraordinary session, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok responded positively to Representative Kim’s question regarding the prompt promotion of Incheon Line 4, stating, "We will consider it positively."

If the resolution passes the plenary session on the 19th, it is expected to be sent to Incheon City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the National Assembly, and the Presidential Office, respectively, and is likely to be included in the Incheon City railway construction research project starting next month.
