Son Hye-won "Kim Nam-guk Back to the National Assembly... New Party Formed with 20 Proportional Representatives from Honam"

"Gwangju, Honam Have a Chance"
"Let's Form a New Party with More Than 20 Proportional Representatives"

Former Democratic Party lawmaker Son Hye-won announced plans to form a new party, including Kim Nam-guk, who left the Democratic Party amid allegations of multi-billion won cryptocurrency scandals. The plan is to create a party based in Honam with about 20 proportional representation members.

On the 14th, Son uploaded a video titled "Kim Nam-guk, Let's Save Him Together" on her YouTube channel 'Son Hye-won TV,' saying, "Let's find a way to see Representative Kim again in the next National Assembly. I think we can do it."

Son said, "I had decided not to help in elections in the political arena, but seeing Kim being ousted changed my mind," adding, "No matter what kind of party I create, whether a proportional party or anything else, I will definitely send Representative Kim back to the National Assembly."

She also criticized the Democratic Party, stating, "What can you do going there (to the Democratic Party)? In my view, it's over. Watching them oust former leader Song and trample on Representative Kim, I can say for sure today that the Democratic Party is finished."

She plans to run as an independent or establish a new party in Honam. She said, "I will create a group for Representative Kim. So we will run as independents in the next election," adding, "I believe there is a good chance of winning in Gwangju or other places in Honam."

The scale is about 20 proportional representation members, the minimum required to form a negotiation group. She said, "Let's create another party, a proportional party, and gather the power to have at least 20 proportional representatives in my view." Son was one of the key members who led the formation of the Open Democratic Party dedicated to proportional representation in the 2020 general election.

She said, "There is now the Open Democratic Party and other parties, but we will review whether to run as independents, create a new party, or unite with existing parties to become the first party," adding, "Ultimately, the end of May is one year away, and the election will be held around April 20 next year, so there is enough time." The next general election will be held on April 10.
