Supply to CJ Daehan Tongun Logistics Center
SK ecoplant has succeeded in producing recycled boxes in collaboration with CJ Logistics and Taelim Packaging.
SK ecoplant, CJ Logistics, and Taelim Packaging announced on the 15th that they have established a 'Closed Loop' system that produces recycled boxes from discarded paper resources at CJ Logistics' logistics center and supplies them back to the CJ Logistics logistics center, successfully producing the first prototype.
The Closed Loop system involves collecting waste, recycling it, and using it again as production resources by the company that originally disposed of it. It is a cycle concept of 'production-disposal-production' rather than the traditional 'production-disposal' structure.
The Closed Loop system utilizes SK ecoplant's comprehensive waste and resource circulation processing platform, 'WAYBLE,' allowing verification of data throughout the resource circulation process. For example, it is possible to know when and where the supplied recycled boxes used the disposed resources.
The prototype was made from paper resources collected at the CJ Logistics logistics center in Yongin from April 10 to 13. The collected paper resources underwent a compression process and were recycled into recycled boxes at Taelim Packaging, which were then supplied back to the CJ Logistics logistics center in Gunpo. The system is planned to be expanded to over 400 CJ Logistics logistics centers nationwide. Through this, approximately 5,000 tons of paper resources are expected to be recycled annually.
To continuously expand the established Closed Loop system, the three companies signed a business agreement on the 10th at SK ecoplant headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, with Taelim Packaging, a leading company in the domestic industrial paper and packaging industry, to establish and spread an independent circulation system for paper resources. The three companies agreed to cooperate to stably build the resource circulation system and to produce recycled boxes and collect related data.
Kim Byung-kwon, head of SK ecoplant's Eco Lab Center, said, "This case is significant as the WAYBLE platform has proven its capability to establish and execute a resource circulation system beyond waste management," adding, "We will expand the scope of the Closed Loop system not only to paper resources but also to other wastes such as plastics."
