Lee Won-wook "Kim Nam-guk Resign from Parliament? People Power Party Should Do Better"

Regarding the demand from the People Power Party for Kim Nam-guk, who left the Democratic Party of Korea amid suspicions of billions in cryptocurrency, to resign from his parliamentary seat, Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Won-wook fired back, saying, "People Power Party should mind their own business."

On the 15th, Lee said on YTN's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' program, "The president's approval rating is in the 30% range in the first year, and the negative evaluation is almost twice that. We cannot help but ask what kind of self-purification ability they have and what infinite responsibility the ruling party, which is supposed to bear unlimited responsibility for people's livelihoods, is actually taking."

He added, "If the People Power Party is making a fuss as if they are benefiting from the Democratic Party's problems, I say, 'People Power Party should do well first.' Their attitude of threatening to exercise a veto on the Nursing Act is a typical example of politics that ignores people's livelihoods and the National Assembly."

At the same time, he also criticized Kim's cryptocurrency investments. Lee said, "This is a violation of the National Assembly members' code of ethics" and "If you want to make money, you shouldn't be a member of the National Assembly."

He continued, "It's one thing if a person invests in cryptocurrency, stocks, or owns 10 or 100 houses as an individual, and it's not a social problem. But when you take your rental deposit and invest it in stocks, and even invest your entire assets in 'junk coins,' how do you think the public will see that?" He especially said that trading cryptocurrency while serving on a standing committee is "unacceptable."

Regarding the recent decline in support for the Democratic Party among people in their 20s and 30s, Lee said, "'I live eating ramen every day, wearing worn-out sneakers'?a poor cosplay that was done by the most reformist lawmaker?buying cryptocurrency while serving on a standing committee completely alienated the hearts of the 20s and 30s generation." He added, "What is even more important is the party's attitude when the Kim Nam-guk incident broke out. If I were in the leadership, I would have immediately suspended his party membership and started disciplinary procedures. But even some top committee members came out saying things like 'Kim Nam-guk is a very poor person' and 'a clean person,' didn't they?"
