Yongin, Gimpo, and Guri cities in Gyeonggi Province have been selected as outstanding cities and counties for fine dust reduction.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 15th that it conducted the '2023 Gyeonggi Province Fine Dust Reduction Outstanding Cities and Counties' evaluation and selected these three regions as the top institutions.
In this evaluation, ▲ the top institutions were Yongin, Gimpo, and Guri ▲ the excellent institutions were Bucheon, Yangju, and Anseong ▲ and the encouraging institutions were Seongnam, Gwangmyeong, and Pocheon, respectively.
Yongin City received high marks not only for installing fine dust reduction facilities in concentrated management areas but also for promoting awareness improvement projects through illegal burning education, campaigns, and experiential activities targeting children and the elderly. It was also analyzed that the city increased information delivery by independently developing the 'Fine Dust Smart Pole' using the city character.
Gimpo City stood out for citizens' interest and participation by holding a 'Fine Dust Acrostic Poem Contest' and promoting a fine dust reduction idea contest project.
Gyeonggi Province will award commendations from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province to the three cities selected as top institutions at the 28th Environment Day commemorative event to be held on the 1st of next month at Suwon Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of the province, said, "This evaluation is meaningful in spreading excellent cases where local governments faithfully planned and promoted fine dust projects and implemented specialized projects tailored to local conditions," adding, "We will continue to support the discovery of reduction measures to protect the health of residents and improve air quality, and strive to strengthen cooperation between the province and cities and counties."
