Former Japanese PM Suga: "In March, I Proposed a Contaminated Water Inspection Team to President Yoon"

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga revealed that he was the one who proposed dispatching an inspection team to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant contaminated water during a meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol last March.

According to Kyodo News and others on the 14th, Suga, who serves as the chairman of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary League, appeared on a Fuji TV program the previous day and said, "Dispatching an inspection team to Fukushima is excellent. It is very welcome."

Former Prime Minister Suga explained that he proposed the inspection on March 17, when President Yoon visited Japan.

President Yoon and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida agreed to dispatch the inspection team during a summit held in Seoul on the 7th.

The South Korean and Japanese governments held a director-general level meeting in Seoul on the 12th and decided to proceed with a four-day visit by a South Korean expert inspection team to Japan. However, since the details of the inspection program have not been finalized, both countries agreed to hold additional consultations promptly.
