Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant for Son of Current Lawmaker Over 20 Billion Won Han Clinic Fraud Loan Allegations

The prosecution investigating allegations of fraudulent loans involving Gwangdeok Anjeong, a network company of Korean medicine clinics, has requested arrest warrants for CEO Mr. A and one other individual.

According to the legal community on the 12th, the Major Crimes Investigation Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jo Gwang-hwan) filed arrest warrants the previous day against Mr. A and Finance Director Mr. B on charges including fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. Mr. A is the son of a current member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea, but the lawmaker is reported to have no connection to the case.


The detention hearing for these individuals will be held on the 15th at 10:40 a.m. before Judge Yoo Chang-hoon, who is in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court.


Mr. A and others are suspected of fabricating balance certificates worth around 1 billion KRW for Korean medicine doctors wishing to open clinics since approximately 2019, enabling them to secure large loans from institutions such as the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund. Gwangdeok Anjeong operates 42 franchised Korean medicine clinics and oriental hospitals nationwide.


The prosecution suspects that through Mr. A, about 30 Korean medicine doctors obtained fraudulent loans totaling approximately 20 billion KRW.
