The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the lifting of the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) for Mpox (monkeypox), but it appears that there will be little change in domestic Mpox quarantine measures.

On the 12th, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency stated, "Despite the WHO's lifting of the international public health emergency, we will maintain the 'caution' level of the crisis alert considering the continued domestic cases."

They added, "We will continue to expand vaccination for high-risk groups and strengthen surveillance to minimize domestic cases," and "We will review adjustments to the response level while analyzing future domestic case trends."

As of midnight on the same day, the cumulative number of confirmed Mpox cases in Korea stands at 70. Among them, 65 cases (92.9%) were confirmed since the 7th of last month.

On the 10th (local time), WHO held an emergency committee meeting and announced the lifting of the PHEIC the day before, citing the stabilization of the global Mpox outbreak.

This decision considered the global decrease in Mpox cases and deaths, as well as no significant changes in the demographic characteristics and severity of confirmed cases compared to the February meeting. WHO emphasized the need to shift efforts from emergency public health responses to long-term management strategies.
