Gallup "President Yoon's Approval Rating Recovers to Mid-30%... Up 2%p"

President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration rose to the mid-30% range as he marked his first anniversary in office. Amid allegations this month regarding Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk's cryptocurrency investment worth around 6 billion won, President Yoon's approval rating saw a slight recovery.


According to Gallup's regular survey conducted from the 9th to the 11th (a telephone interview survey of 1,000 adults aged 18 and over nationwide), President Yoon's approval rating increased by 2 percentage points from the previous week to 35%. The disapproval rating also rose by 2 percentage points to 59%.

Among those who positively evaluated the president's job performance (350 respondents, open-ended), diplomacy (35%), 'defense and security,' and 'improvement of Japan relations' (both 6%) were cited. Those who negatively evaluated his job performance (586 respondents, open-ended) mentioned 'diplomacy' (32%), 'economy, livelihood, and prices' (12%), 'Japan relations and forced labor compensation issues' (7%), 'authoritarian and unilateral,' and 'lack of communication' (both 6%) as reasons. Gallup explained, "In the past two months, diplomatic issues have ranked highest among both positive and negative reasons for evaluating the president's job performance."


President Yoon's approval rating at his first anniversary was the third lowest among presidents since the 13th president. Former President Roh Moo-hyun had the lowest at 25%, followed by former President Lee Myung-bak at 34%. In contrast, former President Moon Jae-in had the highest at 78%, followed by former Presidents Kim Dae-jung (60%), Park Geun-hye (57%), Kim Young-sam (55%), and Roh Tae-woo (45%).


Regarding the Korea-Japan summit, 33% said there were achievements, while 49% said there were none.

In party support, the People Power Party stood at 35%, the Democratic Party at 32%, and the non-affiliated group at 28%. There was no change in support rates for the People Power Party, Democratic Party, and non-affiliated group compared to the previous week.
