Google's First Foldable Phone... Foreign Media Review: "Buy After Seeing Samsung's New Phone"

2.4 Million KRW Google’s First Foldable Phone
Possible Issues Like Defects and Malfunctions
Samsung’s New Fold Phone Launch Also Imminent

Google's first 'foldable smartphone,' the Pixel Fold, has been unveiled. However, reactions from foreign media are mixed. While some praise its sleek design, others express dissatisfaction with the high price relative to its performance. Since it is Google's 'first foldable phone,' there are also cautious opinions suggesting that issues such as defects and malfunctions may arise, so it is best to wait and see.

The IT specialized media outlet 'Digital Trends' published an article titled "Don't Buy the Google Pixel Fold (Yet)" on the 10th (local time). The outlet stated, "Like many others, we are looking forward to the Google Pixel Fold," but also advised, "It is better to take a few weeks to observe before paying $1,800 (about 2.4 million KRW)."

The outlet presented three reasons to postpone the decision to purchase the Pixel Fold. The first is quality concerns. The Pixel Fold is Google's first-generation foldable smartphone. In other words, compared to Samsung or Chinese manufacturers who have already developed foldable phones, it is pointed out that Google's quality control capabilities are significantly inferior.

The outlet emphasized, "Foldable phones are new products, and we must remember that Samsung also had considerable difficulties when it first released the Galaxy Fold," adding, "It is very difficult to make an excellent foldable phone right from the start."

The second concern is the uncertainty of the product delivery date. The outlet pointed out, "The Pixel Fold is currently available for pre-order, but the exact delivery date is unknown." This means that delivery could be delayed at any time due to manufacturing issues.

Lastly, the outlet highlighted that Samsung Electronics' new foldable phone, the 'Galaxy Fold5,' is about to be released. The outlet stated, "By the time you pre-order the Pixel Fold and receive the product, Samsung's new product launch will be imminent," and added, "Samsung has perfected the foldable format over several years."

It is not too late to decide to purchase after checking Samsung's product, which has the best technology in the foldable phone field.

Meanwhile, Google held its annual developer conference at its Mountain View headquarters in Silicon Valley on the 10th and unveiled the Pixel Fold for the first time. The price is $1,800.

The IT specialized media 'PhoneArena' analyzed, "Although the price is the same as the Galaxy Z Fold, Google is trying to differentiate itself from Samsung's foldable." They noted that unlike existing foldable phones, Google's Pixel Fold is not very tall vertically.

There were also opinions expressing disappointment in terms of price-to-performance ratio. PhoneArena pointed out that the application processor (AP) installed in this Pixel Fold is the 'Google Tensor 2.' Tensor 2 is the second-generation version of the AP developed by Google, a joint effort between Google and Samsung Foundry.

Regarding this, the outlet commented, "Considering the speed of Tensor 2, it is unclear whether the $1,800 price is reasonable," and also pointed out, "Additionally, the Google Fold is one of the heavier devices among foldable phones."
