Busan City Expands Support for Infant and Toddler Meal and Snack Expenses at Daycare Centers

Providing High-Quality Meals and Snacks to Support Healthy Growth and Development of Infants and Toddlers

From May, Monthly Increase of 8,000 KRW per Child for Infants and Toddlers Using Daycare Centers

Busan City will expand support for infant and toddler meal and snack expenses at daycare centers by a total of 5.1 billion KRW to promote the healthy growth and development of young children and create a childcare environment where parents can feel secure.

The "Daycare Center Infant and Toddler Meal and Snack Expense Support Project" provides meal and snack expenses to infants and toddlers using daycare centers to offer balanced, high-quality meals and snacks and to reduce the gap in meal costs compared to kindergartens.

Starting in May, the city decided to provide an additional 400 KRW per day per child for meal and snack expenses, separate from the government-supported daily meal fees of 1,900 KRW for infants (0?2 years old) and 2,500 KRW for toddlers (3?5 years old) through childcare fees.

Earlier this year, the city provided an additional 6,000 KRW per month (300 KRW per day based on 20 days) per child, supporting 1,461 daycare centers across Busan and approximately 48,000 infants and toddlers using these centers as of April.

From May this year, the city will expand support to 8,000 KRW per month (400 KRW per day based on 20 days) to provide more balanced and high-quality meals and snacks to infants and toddlers using daycare centers.

Along with the additional support, the city plans to strengthen follow-up management to verify the provision of high-quality meals and snacks and to assess the increase in meal unit costs and other project outcomes.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “We hope that by providing high-quality meals and snacks to children, they will grow up healthy and that a childcare environment where parents can feel secure will be established. We will strive to make Busan a city where children are happy and safe, preparing for the future, and a city where people want to live and be happy again.”
