Gwanak Police Station Conducts Joint Public-Private Inspections with Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Group on Room Cafes and Youth Harmful Businesses
Focused Crackdown on Harmful Substances Such as Drugs Targeting Youth and Resident Awareness Improvement Campaign Activities Also Conducted
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) is conducting joint inspections and crackdowns on youth harmful environments to ensure that young people can grow up healthily.
Since May, the district has been carrying out joint public-private inspections targeting room cafes and youth harmful businesses within the district, in cooperation with Gwanak Police Station and the Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Group, to block various harmful factors threatening youth safety such as drug-laced beverages.
Inspections, previously conducted five times a year, will be expanded to seven times this year. For businesses prohibited from youth entry and employment, the district will check for the attachment of signs stating ‘Entry and Employment Prohibited for Youth Under 19’, and monitor whether youth entry or employment occurs. If violations are detected, guidance activities will be conducted and reports will be made to the relevant police station.
Additionally, the district will utilize the 24-hour Smart Integrated Control Center CCTV to intensively monitor school surroundings during youth commuting hours and strengthen monitoring to block harmful substances such as drugs targeting youth. If anyone is found approaching youth to hand over beverages or exhibiting suspicious behavior, the police will be immediately notified and dispatched for prompt response.
Furthermore, the district plans to provide diagnostic kits to youth suspected of consuming or acquiring drug-laced beverages to support rapid testing, and link them to professional health and medical services to help stabilize emotions and aid recovery if affected youth are identified.
Alongside this, the district conducts ‘Visiting Youth Drug Abuse Prevention Education’ targeting elementary, middle, and high schools as well as local children’s centers, and carries out a ‘Youth Harmful Environment Eradication Campaign’ to improve awareness among youth and residents, actively promoting the risks of harmful environments and the necessity of reporting.
A district official stated, “We plan to continuously conduct crackdowns to protect youth from various harmful environments and help them grow up healthily,” and added, “We ask local residents to take an interest and actively cooperate.”
