On the 11th, the Yuseong Police Station in Daejeon announced that they had arrested and were investigating two women in their 20s, including Ms. A, on charges of fraud.

Earlier, the two are suspected of taking a taxi near Yeongildae Beach in Pohang around 2:30 p.m. on the 8th, traveling to Daejeon, and then disappearing after deceiving the driver by saying they would transfer the taxi fare via bank account. The distance they traveled was about 240 km, and the travel time was approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Ms. A and her companion attempted to pay with a transportation card that had insufficient balance and then left their phone number, saying, "I will transfer the money 10 minutes after I get home," but did not respond to any calls afterward.

The police received a complaint from the taxi driver, Mr. B, who had driven them that day, and started an investigation. They secured the suspects in a residential area in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, which was their destination.

Ms. A and her group reportedly admitted to most of the charges of deliberately deceiving Mr. B and not paying the fare.

The police plan to send them to the prosecution after investigating the specific circumstances.

Meanwhile, this case came to light when Mr. B’s daughter posted on an online community, saying, "My father, who is a taxi driver, was scammed out of his taxi fare."

In her post, Mr. B’s daughter expressed, "It seems the passengers deliberately 'ran away without paying,' and my father, who is not very familiar with the area, was victimized. He searched for the passengers in an unfamiliar area until it got dark and only returned home late at night. It’s very upsetting."
