Thorough Hygiene Management and Operation of Food Stations
The satisfaction level of foreign athletes and officials participating in the ‘2023 Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships’ regarding food and accommodation in Jinju City was found to be very high.
Jinju City, Gyeongnam, announced that in a survey on food and accommodation satisfaction conducted among 200 foreign athletes visiting Jinju City for the competition, over 90% responded with ‘very satisfied.’ As of the 10th, the cumulative number of accommodations for foreign athletes and officials is 5,005, and the cumulative number of breakfast, lunch, and dinner users is 13,254.
Regarding this competition, Jinju City has been operating a comprehensive situation room daily from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from the 2nd until the competition ends on the 13th to manage food and accommodation for foreign athletes, providing country-specific customized meals and thoroughly managing the hygiene of accommodation facilities.
Since the foreign athletes participating in the competition come from different languages, cultures, and religions requiring careful consideration, high-quality and diverse country-specific customized meals are provided through menu sharing, feedback on food quality, taste, and menu evaluations. In particular, for athletes from Islamic cultural backgrounds who strictly observe religious doctrines and only allow halal food, only halal-certified products are carefully selected and used to provide thoroughly customized menus.
Additionally, food inspectors are assigned to measure the core temperature of served food and ensure compliance with serving times, preventing food poisoning during cooking and serving processes, thereby providing food safely. The friendliness and cleanliness of the foreign athletes’ accommodations are also strictly managed through guidance and inspections.
Moreover, by operating a food station within the competition venue, fruits, snacks, and meal substitutes are provided to foreign athletes and officials along with rest areas, helping to enhance athletes’ performance before matches. As of the 10th, the number of users of the food station is 1,483.
One foreign athlete said, “The Jinju City Organizing Committee sincerely considers the foreign athletes, making us feel well treated.”
