A Woman in Her 60s Found Dead in Villa in Songpa-gu... Suspected Solitary Death

No Signs of Crime or Extreme Choice
Possibility of Solitary Death Due to Chronic Illness Weighed

A woman in her 60s was found dead in a villa in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Authorities suspect that the woman lived alone in a welfare blind spot and died in solitude.

The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced on the 11th that a firefighter discovered Ms. A (62) dead at a villa in Seokchon-dong, Songpa-gu, around 3 p.m. on the 8th. The fire department responded after a neighbor reported a "foul odor."

There were no signs at the scene to suggest a crime or an extreme choice. The police are focusing on the possibility that Ms. A died alone due to an underlying illness.

A police official stated, "Because the body was severely decomposed, an autopsy is necessary to determine the exact time and cause of death."

According to Songpa District Office, Ms. A had unpaid health insurance premiums for four months from July to October last year but paid all premiums from November to March this year.

An official from the district office said, "According to the welfare blind spot detection system, regional subscribers who fail to pay health insurance premiums under 100,000 KRW per month for three consecutive months become subjects for detection. Although the deceased had a four-month delinquency period last year, the premiums were over 100,000 KRW per month, so she was not subject to detection."
