Yoon Jae-ok: "We Must Not Just Stand By Watching Coin Corruption and Money Envelope Allegations"

Party Floor Leaders Agree to Include Public Officials' Asset Declaration Items
"Kim Nam-guk Must Cooperate with Prosecutors' Investigation," Criticized

Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party's party convention money envelope allegations and Rep. Kim Nam-guk's cryptocurrency corruption, saying, "I think we should not just watch like spectators." Yoon's remarks are interpreted as considering that cryptocurrency-related issues have significant influence and that the 20s and 30s generation, which can determine the outcome of next year's general election, may react sensitively.

After the People Power Party's lawmakers' meeting on the 11th, Yoon told reporters, "At times like this, I think we need to reflect on ourselves and be more strict to ensure there are no shortcomings in meeting the public's expectations."

The floor leaders of both parties discussed bills, including the inclusion of virtual assets in public officials' asset declaration items, at a meeting presided over by the Speaker of the National Assembly that day. The related bill, the amendment to the Public Officials Ethics Act, is pending in the Administrative Safety Committee, the relevant standing committee. After the meeting, Yoon added, "Both parties will push forward with speed."

During a brown bag meeting with the press corps that day, he also said, "If there is room for public officials to hide assets due to legislative loopholes, this must be corrected immediately," adding, "The full investigation can be conducted after resolving this issue first."

Earlier that morning at the floor countermeasure meeting, Yoon also criticized Rep. Kim Nam-guk. He said, "(Rep. Kim) changes his story every day and offers unconvincing explanations. Lies beget more lies," and asserted, "The public opinion is that the prosecution should immediately reapply for a search warrant and the court should promptly issue it."

He continued, "I hope the Democratic Party and Rep. Kim Nam-guk remember that instead of evading responsibility through superficial investigations, delaying tactics, and changing stories, it is a priority to confess the truth before the public and cooperate with the prosecution's investigation."
