Hampyeong-gun Provides On-site Technical Support to Mobile Beekeeping Farms

Hampyeong-gun Agricultural Technology Center has started on-site technical support for migratory beekeeping farms.

On the 11th, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it visited the apiaries of local beekeepers who are practicing migratory beekeeping in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do to provide honey harvesting technical support.

This technical support was arranged to alleviate the difficulties faced by beekeeping farms due to the recent nationwide disappearance of honeybees and changes in blooming periods caused by abnormal weather.

Currently, the Hampyeong-gun Beekeeping Research Association has about 80 members, of which around 30 are engaged in migratory beekeeping.

They are harvesting honey nationwide in accordance with the acacia blooming period in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk; Geochang, Gyeongnam; and Gongju, Chungnam.

The migratory beekeeping is expected to continue moving through Gyeonggi-do to Gangwon-do until the end of June.

Heo Sam-yeong, president of the Beekeeping Research Association, said, “This is the first time we have faced such a difficult situation. Due to honeybee deaths and worsening climate, the number of bee colonies and honey harvest have decreased by about half compared to last year,” adding, “We are greatly encouraged by the Agricultural Technology Center’s technical support during the busy farming season.”

Park Eun-ha, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “Honeybees are a valuable resource directly linked not only to the beekeeping industry but also to crop productivity. We will resolve difficulties by providing appropriate support and technical education to beekeeping farms.”
