Hotel Shilla has undertaken underwater and coastal cleanup activities to protect marine ecosystems as part of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management efforts.
On the 10th, in celebration of 'Sea Planting Day,' Hotel Shilla announced on the 11th that it conducted a public-private joint underwater and coastal cleanup campaign called 'Cleaner Sea, Greener, More Shilla' around Daepyeong-ri, Seogwipo-si, Jeju, to protect the marine ecosystem.
During the campaign, divers, haenyeo (female divers), and others participated in activities such as removing underwater trash to the land and plogging (an environmental activity involving picking up trash while jogging) to collect debris washed ashore. Approximately 6 tons of waste were collected through these efforts.

About 300 people from more than 20 organizations, including Hotel Shilla employees, Seogwipo City Hall, Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, Seogwipo Coast Guard, Jeju Underwater Finswimming Association, Neighbor Love Practice Social Welfare Foundation, CSR Impact, and Daepyeong-ri Fishing Village Cooperative, participated in the environmental cleanup activities. To prepare for safety accidents during the activities, the Seogwipo Marine Rescue Team provided medical personnel and equipment support.
Daepyeong Port is an area where a large amount of coastal waste accumulates. The collected trash mainly consisted of household waste such as plastics and cans, as well as discarded fishing gear. Hotel Shilla plans to continue its efforts to protect the local environment by participating in programs such as the 'Companion Beach' program operated by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Meanwhile, Hotel Shilla is promoting the marine cleanup campaign through the eco-friendly slogan 'Greener, More Shilla' and the step-donation platform 'Big Walk.' Funds raised through step donations are used for marine conservation activities, and participants in the step-donation program can also receive S Rewards points redeemable at Shilla Duty Free. The step-donation event is open for participation until the 21st of this month.
