Temporary Opening of Nine Joseon Royal Tomb Forest Trails

Guri Donggureung, Namyangju Gwangneung, Hwaseong Yung and Geonneung, etc.

Nine forest trails at Joseon Royal Tombs, lush with fresh greenery, will be temporarily opened.

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Royal Tombs and Relics Headquarters announced on the 10th that from the 16th, forest trails at Donggureung in Guri, Gwangneung in Namyangju, and Yungneung and Geonneung in Hwaseong will be accessible. This aims to promote the value of the Joseon Royal Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site, while providing opportunities for rest and nature experiences.


In Seoul, visitors can walk along a 1.8 km section connecting Taereung and Gangneung, and a 970 m path from Cheonjangsan at Uireung to the restored historical landscape forest, embracing the embrace of nature. In eastern Gyeonggi Province, forest trails at Donggureung in Guri (2.7 km), Gwangneung in Namyangju (1.1 km), and Sareung in Namyangju (600 m) will be open. At Donggureung, visitors can explore a nature learning center planted with wildflowers and riparian plants. Gwangneung’s forest of Bokjaginamu trees and Sareung’s flower garden are must-see attractions.


In western Gyeonggi Province, forest trails at Jangneung in Paju (1.7 km), Yungneung and Geonneung in Hwaseong (3.15 km), and Samneung in Paju (4.1 km) will be accessible. At Yungneung and Geonneung, the wildflower meadow offers a resting spot, while a small pond at Samneung provides a place to pause. In Yeoju, visitors can walk a 3.4 km outer forest trail connecting Yeongneung (英陵), the tomb of King Sejong, and Yeongneung (寧陵), the tomb of King Hyojong.


Temporary Opening of Nine Joseon Royal Tomb Forest Trails

The Joseon Royal Tombs forest trails will be open until the 30th of next month. However, four forest trails?Uireung in Seoul, Jangneung and Samneung in Paju, and Yungneung and Geonneung in Hwaseong?will welcome visitors until November. Opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the sites are closed on Mondays. For more details, please refer to the Royal Tombs and Relics Headquarters website.
