The citizen safety insurance covers all Sacheon residents with an address in Sacheon City (including registered foreigners), and anyone can receive benefits as they are automatically enrolled without a separate subscription process.
Additionally, overlapping compensation is possible regardless of the accident location or whether the individual has other insurance coverage, and the coverage period is one year from May 10, 2023, to May 9, 2024.
The coverage items include ▲death from natural disasters ▲death or permanent disability due to explosion, fire, or collapse ▲death or permanent disability due to injury while using public transportation ▲death or permanent disability due to robbery ▲and death by drowning.
It also includes ▲injury treatment costs for traffic accidents in school zones for children under 12 ▲death or permanent disability due to gas-related injuries ▲death or permanent disability due to hit-and-run or uninsured vehicle accidents ▲and death or permanent disability due to agricultural machinery accidents.
In particular, starting this year, social disaster deaths, dog bites, and emergency room visits have been added to the coverage items, and the coverage amount has been increased from a maximum of 10 million KRW to a maximum of 12 million KRW. Death due to agricultural machinery accidents is covered up to 15 million KRW.
Insurance claims can be filed by the victim or legal heirs by submitting a claim form and related documents to the Korea Local Finance Association when the claim event occurs, and the claim expiration period is three years from the date of the accident.
Sacheon City began the first enrollment on May 10, 2021, and has paid a total of 81.5 million KRW in insurance to nine citizens so far.
Mayor Park Dongsik said, “We will do our best to operate the citizen safety insurance so that it can be a great support and act like a guardian angel for citizens to live their daily lives with peace of mind.”
