Gyeonggi-do Provides 597,000 KRW Support to Households Installing Solar Panels

Gyeonggi-do Provides 597,000 KRW Support to Households Installing Solar Panels Gyeonggi Province will provide subsidies for households installing solar panels until January next year.

Gyeonggi Province will support over 3,200 households installing solar panels on the roofs or rooftops of single-family homes, including multi-family houses, within the province this year, providing 597,000 KRW per household for installation costs.

On the 10th, the province announced the implementation of the "100,000 Households Power Self-Reliance Project" to realize energy welfare and expand renewable energy.

This project is part of the "RE100 Village" initiative, one of the 13 tasks under the "Gyeonggi RE100 Vision" proclaimed by Governor Kim Dong-yeon on the 24th of last month.

The 100,000 Households Power Self-Reliance Project is a program where the government, Gyeonggi Province, and local governments provide subsidies for part of the installation costs when installing a 3kW solar power generation system in houses selected under the Korea Energy Agency's renewable energy dissemination (housing support) project.

When installing a 3kW solar power system in a house, out of the total installation cost of 5,966,000 KRW, the government subsidy is 2,808,000 KRW, and after deducting subsidies from the province and local governments, the average household only needs to bear 1,368,000 KRW (23%).

If the household electricity usage is 500 kWh, the electricity bill will be reduced from 122,730 KRW to 26,240 KRW, saving 96,490 KRW.

The province is investing 2 billion KRW of provincial funds to support 597,000 KRW each for over 3,200 households.

The province will recruit participating households on a first-come, first-served basis until January next year. Applications can be submitted through the Gyeonggi Environment and Energy Promotion Agency’s Gyeonggi Energy Transition website.

Kim Yeon-ji, Director of the Energy Industry Division of the province, urged, "In this era of climate crisis, we hope many Gyeonggi residents will show interest and participate in the '100,000 Households Power Self-Reliance Project,' which protects the environment and reduces energy bill burdens."
