Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, announced that 267 volunteers participated in the 25th Gyeongsangbuk-do Disabled Sports Competition held over two days from the 2nd to the 3rd, with the Uljin-gun Comprehensive Volunteer Center (Chairman Park Kyung-jo) playing a central role.

Uljin-gun 25th Gyeongbuk Disabled Sports Festival, Together with 267 Volunteers! Volunteers who quietly kept their place and worked behind the scenes.

The volunteers were active in various areas such as guiding at 12 venues, assisting with game progress, providing mobility support, supplying water, and maintaining order across 12 sports, welcoming over 4,000 athletes and visitors from 22 cities and counties.

The volunteers’ efforts stood out throughout the competition. In the table tennis matches, pairs of two guarded the tables and helped by picking up and delivering balls on behalf of athletes with physical disabilities, ensuring smooth game support throughout the matches.

During the Hangung (Korean traditional archery) events, volunteers assisted visually impaired athletes by guiding them from the waiting area to the competition venue, helping them participate in the games. Additionally, some volunteers who had learned sign language in advance were seen encouraging and cheering on hearing-impaired athletes.

Chairman Park Kyung-jo said, “Thanks to the volunteers who quietly held their positions behind the scenes and actively participated, the 25th Gyeongsangbuk-do Disabled Sports Competition was successfully concluded. I am grateful to all the volunteers who worked hard over the two days.”

County Governor Son Byung-bok stated, “Because of the volunteers who supported the games alongside the athletes, the valuable efforts of the athletes who overcame disabilities and competed could shine even brighter. I applaud the volunteers’ consideration and kindness, who participated with a proper understanding of disabilities, and thank them for laying the foundation for improving disability awareness.”
