Confession After Persuasion by Child
A woman in her 50s who left her deceased husband's body unattended for about a week turned herself in to the police after being persuaded by her children.
Dunsan Police Station in Daejeon is investigating a woman in her 50s who reported to the police after leaving her deceased husband unattended at home, Yonhap News reported on the 9th.
According to the police, Ms. A left the body of her husband Mr. B, in his 60s, unattended for about a week without holding a separate funeral after he died at their home earlier this month, and reported it to 112 at around 3:30 p.m. on the 7th.
At that time, their children who visited the couple's home discovered the body and persuaded Ms. A to report it to the police.
Police investigation revealed that Ms. A acted under the religious belief that "God will resurrect her deceased husband."
Although the couple was not affiliated with any specific religious denomination, it is known that they developed this belief after self-studying the Bible over the past few years.
The police stated that no signs of homicide were found on Mr. B's body.
However, the police are conducting a thorough investigation of Ms. A and her family to determine the exact circumstances, and have requested an autopsy to clarify the precise time and cause of Mr. B's death.
A police official said, "It seems Ms. A truly believed her husband would come back to life," adding, "We will review the legal grounds to determine whether to apply charges for abandonment of a corpse and decide on filing charges accordingly."
