LG CNS Develops 'Core' Solution, the Brain of 5G Specialized Network

LG CNS announced on the 9th that it has developed the 5G specialized network (Eum5G) core solution, ‘LG CNS 5G Core,’ using its own technology.

The core solution is the key software of the 5G specialized network. It manages terminal-related functions used within the 5G specialized network, such as ▲authentication ▲interconnection ▲traffic control. The 5G specialized network is a dedicated enterprise network that can implement a 5G communication network within a specific range, such as factories or buildings. Unlike general mobile communication networks, it uses a separate dedicated frequency and features ▲ultra-high speed ▲ultra-low latency ▲hyper-connectivity ▲excellent security.

LG CNS has implemented the 5G core solution to be usable in cloud environments as well. In cloud environments, it can quickly increase processing capacity in response to sudden traffic surges, maintaining optimal service quality. Compared to the traditional on-premises (in-house deployment) method, it offers significant cost savings in infrastructure construction and maintenance. LG CNS is collaborating with domestic cloud service providers (CSPs) to conduct 5G core technology verification (PoC) in cloud environments. Based on this, it plans to provide 5G specialized network services to the global market.

LG CNS applied ‘network slicing’ technology to the ‘LG CNS 5G Core.’ Network slicing is a technology that divides a network to create multiple independent virtual networks. By applying this technology, customized services can be provided to customers with different business requirements. For example, based on highly reliable real-time communication with almost no latency, autonomous driving services are provided to the automotive industry, and intelligent CCTV services to the smart city industry. Since one network is divided into several, customers can use Eum5G cost-effectively.

LG CNS enhanced service scalability based on ‘NEF (Network Exposure Function)’ technology. NEF is a technology that allows various service providers to use terminal location data. Manufacturing companies using ‘LG CNS 5G Core’ can identify the detailed location of sorting robots in logistics centers through NEF to improve sorting accuracy and plan collaborative routes with other robots. This means various services can be additionally connected and utilized within the 5G specialized network.

Additionally, there are advantages in data processing speed and compatibility. The data processing speed exceeds 100Gbps (gigabits per second) based on a single core, which is higher than the industry average of 10Gbps to 40Gbps. Developed according to the latest 5G standard (3GPP Release 16) by the mobile communication standardization organization (3GPP), it offers high communication compatibility with terminals, base stations, and others worldwide.

Before commercializing the core solution, LG CNS introduced ‘LG CNS 5G Core’ to Kyung Hee University in February. Last year, it also conducted Eum5G technology verification for AI vision inspection and unmanned transport robot operation at a global electronic components company. Eum5G was also established at the Government Sejong Complex to ensure stable operation of ▲autonomous patrol robots ▲AI facial recognition access gates ▲environmental sensors.

Kim Tae-hoon, Executive Vice President of LG CNS Cloud Business Division, emphasized, “LG CNS has thrown down the gauntlet in the 5G specialized network core market, which had been led by global companies. Going forward, we will lead the market as an all-arounder in 5G specialized networks, from construction to service provision and core supply.”
