Lee Gijae, Yangcheon District Mayor, Attends Carnation Delivery Ceremony on Parents' Day
Lee Gijae, Yangcheon District Mayor, expressed his gratitude by pinning carnations on the elderly who visited the district office's Silver Restaurant on the morning of the 8th in celebration of Parents' Day.
Notably, the carnations used that day were handmade by members of the volunteer group ‘Sonkarak (樂) Volunteer Group’ affiliated with the Yangcheon Volunteer Center through three months of talent donation. A total of 1,700 carnations were produced for this year’s Parents' Day event and delivered to 11 welfare institutions.
Since 2003, the district’s ‘Hyo Dream Carnation’ project, now in its 21st year, has contributed to honoring the deep love and devotion of parents and spreading a culture of filial piety in the local community.
After personally pinning carnations on each elderly visitor at the Silver Restaurant and sharing a meal, Lee Gijae, Yangcheon District Mayor, said, “I thank the volunteers who have participated in carnation-making volunteer activities for over 20 years every year. We will continue to implement senior-friendly policies so that our elderly can enjoy a vibrant old age.”

Choi Hogwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, visited long-lived seniors in the area on the afternoon of the 8th to celebrate the 51st Parents' Day and engaged in conversations with them.
Mayor Choi pinned carnations on a senior who turned 100 this year and his wife, wishing them longevity and good health.
The district provides a longevity congratulatory allowance of 50,000 KRW once a year to seniors aged 95 to 99 who are registered residents and actually living in the area, and 100,000 KRW once a year to seniors aged 100 and above.

Five Welfare Centers Host Unique Events
Jungnang District (Mayor Ryu Kyunggi) expressed gratitude to local seniors together with residents in celebration of Parents' Day.
The district announced that various events were held throughout the region to convey respect and gratitude to seniors and to reflect on the meaning of filial piety, making it a meaningful Parents' Day.
First, on the 8th, the Happy Sharing Council of Myeonmok 7-dong held the ‘I Love You! Thank You!’ event, one of the district’s specialized projects. The council personally visited 20 low-income elderly living alone, checked on their well-being, and shared warm affection by giving gifts such as galbitang (beef rib soup) and walnut pastries.
The Hyosarang Volunteer Society of Mangwoo 3-dong conducted blanket laundry volunteer activities for seniors with mobility difficulties, gifting them a cozy and warm Parents' Day. Volunteers collected the seniors’ blankets, washed them, and returned them to each household, adding a heartwarming touch to the community.
The Parents' Day events continued at welfare centers. From the 4th to the 8th, the district held meaningful times for seniors in cooperation with local senior welfare centers. Five senior welfare centers participated: the Sinnae Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center, Yongma Senior Welfare Center, Sinnae Senior Welfare Center, Junghwa Senior Welfare Center, and Jungnang Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center. The events featured unique programs at each center, including pinning carnations, congratulatory performances, a Silver Song Festival, forest exploration, and craft experiences.

Guro District Holds ‘BomBom Festival’ for Parents' Day
Guro District (Mayor Moon Heonil) held the ‘BomBom Festival’ at the Guro Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center on the 8th in celebration of Parents' Day.
Moon Heonil, Guro District Mayor, awarded certificates of commendation to exemplary seniors and said, “I express gratitude and love to our mothers and fathers,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure seniors can spend their later years healthily and happily.”
The event was followed by congratulatory performances and lunch, along with various side events such as an eco-friendly experience zone, joint consultation, and hand massage.
Dongdaemun District Awards ‘Filial Duty Public Officials’ Commendations on Parents' Day

Dongdaemun District (Mayor Lee Pilhyung) awarded ‘Filial Duty Public Official’ commendations on the 8th, the 51st Parents' Day, to employees who have devotedly cared for their parents with utmost filial piety and have been exemplary in their official duties.
Five recipients in total: Kang Jisuk, Public Welfare Team Leader of Dapsimni 2-dong, received the Seoul Mayor’s commendation; Choi Youngjin from the Vehicle Management Division, Han Jangsong from the Urban Landscape Division, Park Jonghee from the Flood Control Division, and Oh Changjun from the Health Policy Division each received the Dongdaemun District Mayor’s commendation.
The awarded employees have long taken care of their ill parents with dedication while always responding kindly to civil complaints with a bright expression at work, serving as role models for other employees both in public and private matters.

Geumcheon District (Mayor Yoo Seonghun) awarded commendations to exemplary contributors such as ‘Filial Exemplars’ and ‘Honored Parents’ on May 8th, the 51st Parents' Day.
The filial exemplar commendations, given to those who have devotedly cared for parents and children and created harmonious families serving as role models to neighbors, were awarded to 11 individuals: Kim Dongran, Choi Heesook (Gasan-dong), Seo Bokrye (Doksan 1-dong), Jang Sunmi (Doksan 3-dong), Hwang Youngae (Doksan 4-dong), Jang Jeongok (Siheung 1-dong), An Okhee (Siheung 2-dong), Shin Munja, Hwang Jeongok (Siheung 3-dong), Ryu Giok (Siheung 5-dong), and Jeon Jieun (Geumcheon Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center). Gwangjin District (Mayor Kim Kyungho) held a ‘Visiting Hyo Package Delivery Ceremony’ and awarded commendations to meritorious persons on the 8th in celebration of the 51st Parents' Day.
This event was held by neighborhood to express gratitude and respect for seniors’ hard work. Although COVID-19 has subsided, to protect high-risk seniors, the event was conducted not as a senior feast but as a visit to low-income seniors. Representatives of seniors, seniors themselves, representatives of functional organizations, as well as members of the National Assembly and city and district councilors attended, adding luster to the occasion.
In the morning, Kim Kyungho, Gwangjin District Mayor, attended the ‘Hyo Package Delivery Ceremony’ at Junggok 2-dong and Gunja-dong community centers, and in the afternoon at Guui 3-dong and Jayang 4-dong community centers, drawing attention.

The Hyo packages in paper bags printed with lucky pouches contained ▲meal replacement convenience foods ▲prepared foods ▲snacks ▲beverages, autonomously composed by each neighborhood. Each neighborhood delivered these not only to participating seniors but also to over 3,500 low-income seniors aged 65 and above, wishing for their healthy lives and longevity.
Following this, commendations were awarded to model senior leaders, senior welfare contributors, and filial exemplars who contributed to community development and senior welfare enhancement. Reflecting on the meaning of practicing filial piety and respect for elders, it was a meaningful time for everyone to be happy.
With seniors accounting for about 16% of the population, Gwangjin District strives to improve senior welfare through ▲support for senior jobs and social activities ▲provision of customized senior care services ▲check-in and beverage delivery services for low-income seniors living alone ▲remodeling and operating expenses support for senior centers. The district promised to continue efforts in various ways to ensure seniors’ healthy and happy old age on the occasion of the 51st Parents' Day.
