An Indonesian woman died after forcibly opening an elevator door and falling through the gap.
According to Indonesian media Tribun Medan, on the 2nd, a local woman named Aisha Santa Dewi (38) was found dead on the floor of the elevator shaft at Kualanamu International Airport. This was three days after her family reported her missing.
CCTV footage released by Kualanamu International Airport showed Aisha entering the airport's double-door elevator alone. When the elevator arrived at the second floor, the rear door, not the front door in front of her, opened.
However, she was using her phone and did not notice the rear door opening. Thinking the elevator door was not opening, she panicked and repeatedly pressed the open button. The rear door was about to close but reopened, yet the confused woman did not realize this.
Believing the elevator was malfunctioning, she forcibly opened the front door and rushed out, but fell through the gap.
Afterwards, her family, who had been in contact with Aisha just before the accident, reported her missing to the airport authorities and police, but her whereabouts remained unknown for over three days. Then, airport staff received reports of a foul smell coming from the elevator, and Aisha was found deceased on the floor of the elevator shaft, left unattended.
